About Movie Ruiner...
I spent my pre-teen years in 1980s Britain, growing up under Margaret Thatcher in a country that was, for the most part, in financial crisis.
I spent my childhood in rainy old South Wales, watching 1980s American movies through rose-tinted glasses. Everything was sunnier and shinier! The humans were better looking! The kids had more fun! They had MALLS! ("What's a mall?" was a common question in my household...)
Today, I live in America, possibly inspired to do so by the popular culture I grew up with. It hasn't made me sunnier or shinier, but I do know what malls are now (and I HATE them). Recently, I started revisiting movies I loved as a kid, and re-examining them through an adult, post-millennium lens.
